Puppy FAQs

Below you’ll find answers to common questions about our puppies and our breeding program. If you don’t see your question addressed here, we’re always happy to hear from you.

How do I apply for a puppy?

The first step is to complete our puppy application, which can be found here. This allows us to learn more about you, your home, and what you’re hoping for in a dog, so we can determine whether our program may be a good fit. Approved applicants may be invited to a phone conversation as part of our placement process. We place our puppies thoughtfully and selectively, with the goal of making lifelong matches.

How much do your puppies cost?

Our puppy pricing reflects the care, planning, and responsibility that goes into each litter.

  • Beagles: $2,200
  • Pugs: $3,000

Pet puppies are placed on a non-breeding contract with AKC Limited Registration, which allows participation in all AKC activities except conformation showing.

Is a deposit required?

Yes. Once a family is approved and a puppy is offered, a $500 deposit is required to reserve that puppy. The deposit is applied toward the total purchase price, with the remaining balance due at pickup.

Do you ship puppies?

We do not ship puppies via cargo. However, we are happy to work with families to arrange safe travel options when needed. Puppies may be met at CMH Airport, or we can fly the puppy in cabin to an airport near you. All travel-related expenses are the responsibility of the buyer.

When can puppies go home?

Puppies are ready to go home once they are developmentally prepared to do so.

  • Beagles: around 8 weeks of age
  • Pugs: around 10 weeks of age

These timelines allow each puppy to receive appropriate early socialization and developmental support.

Can we visit our puppy?

Yes. Approved families are welcome to visit their puppy for a scheduled playdate, typically between 6–8 weeks of age. Visits must be arranged in advance to ensure the health and safety of our dogs and puppies.

What is included with a Folklore puppy?

Each puppy goes home with a strong foundation and comprehensive support, including:

  • AKC Limited Registration
  • Two-year written health guarantee
  • Lifetime breeder support
  • Lifetime return guarantee
  • Age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming
  • Veterinary wellness exam
  • Travel health certificate (if applicable)
  • Dew claws removed
  • Prepaid microchip with AKC Reunite
  • Early foundations in crate training
  • Introduction to litter box training
  • A small bag of current food (Pro Plan Puppy)
  • A familiar toy and/or blanket

Our puppies are raised in our home with purposeful early development, giving them a confident and well-supported start as they transition to their new families.

Anything else we should know?

We are a small, home-based preservation breeding program and do not always have puppies available. Timing and placement are based on the individual puppy and the home that best suits them. We encourage prospective families to take time to explore our website, read through our process, and reach out with thoughtful questions.
